Improve Your Golf Swing for More Club Head Speed

For the club to apply all of the energy we put into it into the golf ball it must swing freely through as if it were a pendulum.

Using the standard roll over fore arm actions this requires great timing, since the downward un-cocking of the wrists must be coordinated and timed with the rolling over actions of the forearms.

Due to this type of arm action only those who have been blessed with excellent hand eye coordination are able to learn it easily. These people could learn to juggle or do a similarly difficult skill quickly, where those who are not blessed with these skills from birth must labor long and hard to learn it if they ever learn it at all.

Golf instructors and driving ranges love this since those struggling to improve their play (most players) need guidance and practice to make small slow progress.

When the wrists are allowed to hinge freely without rolling the forearms amazing things happen, the ball goes far and flies straight.

This type of release allows the total transfer of the energy we put into the club into the back of the ball.

The ability to allow the club to swing freely requires a relaxed grip and the correct application of the right hand hit.

This hit can best be described as a tossing action of the right hand as it passes between the left hand and the ball. The right hand must not roll over the left hand, rather it rolls under it.

Done this way all of the energy goes into the ball instead of some of it actually hitting ourselves. This hitting of ourselves is a result of the club and left arm getting into a too straight line vertically as the left wrist reaches the bottom of its travel.

Often this causes pain in the left elbow area (of right handed players).

Quit Smoking: Why People Do Bad Things (Even When They Know They Shouldn't)

Do you do Bad Things? Even though you know you shouldn't?

It's not your fault. It really isn't. You know you should stop doing it, but no matter how much you know that, and how much you try, you just can't stop!

Everyone knows how to lose weight. Don't eat fattening foods. exercise. Everyone knows how to give up smoking. Dont light the cigarette. Yet having this knowledge just isn't enough. Sometimes even having the desire isn't enough! Time and again I hear about people who get really close to quitting smoking. They can get all the way down to one or two cigarettes a day, but just can't give up those last two. Many even make it all the way down to zero, but the cravings, oh the cravings! They are wretched, those cravings. Most will go back to smoking within the first few days. They can cut away most of the "stuff" that keeps them glued to the cigarettes, even not be addicted to nicotine anymore(!), but there is just something deep in their core that magnetically pulls them back in, like two lovers who know they are bad for each other but just can't help themselves.

What is this thing? What is at this core?

Let me take a step back for a moment. How many adults do you know who are happy? I mean really, truly happy? Think that question is foolishness? Let me ask you this. How many people do you know who love their work? I'm talkin' jump out of bed in the morning, can't wait to start. Sadly, the percentage is very small. Why is this?

We live in an interesting quick-fix culture. People don't really have to deal with their issues. We've got:

* television
* movies
* shopping
* toys
* and hitting the gym

to distract us and make us feel better. Even more than that, many people's issues are quite buried. Think of dreams that were squashed when we were young. "An artist? You could never make a living at that! You should be a doctor!" People often forget what their dreams once were.

As a result, I see an awful lot of unhappy, unfulfilled people walking around. They don't know what is bothering them, they just have that gnawing feeling that there must be more. Advertisers pray on this, selling us more and more bottles and gizmos to give us that ever elusive Happiness.

True inner needs? People either:

* think they're impossible to fulfill
* are too scared and resigned to fulfill them
* or are so disassociated from those needs that they don't even know what they would be even if they had to guess!

All those "bad" things -- smoking, overeating, gambling, alcohol, the list goes on and on -- are easy ways to fill the void. Smokers will be able to relate to this one -- if you've just had a fight with your family, what do you do? You go for a smoke. Smoking makes it feel like the problem goes away. (I call this the "smokescreen." Har har!)

I'll let you in on a little secret--the real reason it's so hard to quit is not the nicotine. It's this void-filling. When you quit smoking (or any bad habit), you're suddenly faced with real life. All those stresses and needs that you've been avoiding? There they are, pulling at your coat tails, yelling, "Pay attention to me! Pay attention to me!" If you got in touch with your real inner needs and took baby steps to start fulfilling them, you would actually have little desire for cigarettes. It's true! I see it happen time and again in my Stop Smoking Coaching practice.

How do you do that, you ask? Here are some baby steps that you can start trying out now:

* Next time, instead of taking that quick fix--stop.
* Have a little quiet time and listen to what your insides have been trying to tell you.
* Try journaling -- don't edit your thoughts, just write.
* Some people find meditation and yoga to be great accesses.
* Try deep breathing.
* Go for a quiet, leisurely walk by yourself.
* Personally, I find it easiest to just start noticing where in life I seem to be avoiding things the most, or if I want something more immediate and active, doing a mindmap (a word drawing) to figure out what I'm really thinking.

For each person, the key to figuring out your needs is different. play around with it, don't give up! You'll be glad you did!

Golf Posture Drill For Longer, More Powerful Golf Shots

You've probably heard this before but please don't discount what I'm about to say because it's so important the posture that you setup to a golf ball with has either a great positive or negative affect on your golf swing. For example, your setup posture largely determines whether or not you can shift your weight and turn fully and without restriction away and through the golf ball.

this obviously has a HUGE effect on your potential distance output.

Also, your posture position at setup will largely determine how well you maintain your balance as you're swinging and how forcefully you can swing down and through the ball, thus determining how far you can hit the ball.

Yes, the posture you set at address really is that important!

But don't believe me, instead listen to what this pretty famous golfer has to say about it

"You need to be in an athletically ready position so you can respond to movement quickly, smoothly and without losing your balance."

Tiger Woods

But luckily, having a good athletic posture position is really, really easy to achieve. Unfortunately most golfers either don't place enough importance on posture or they think their posture is OK.

Unfortunately most amateur golfers have very bad setup posture and sadly they don't understand that this has a huge negative detriment on their golf swing itself. But like I said a second ago, it's really easy to have good posture and here's a simple exercise to help improve yours. Here's what you need to do

1. stand up straight with your feet about shoulder width apart, then

2. Take the straightness out of your knees, then...

3. Place a club along your spine, and then

4. Bend forward making sure that your spine remains straight. And a very, very important point when doing this exercise is you want your backside to move back when doing this as it creates a balanced golf posture position. You want your weight to be on the balls of your feet when you're setup and it won't be unless you follow the steps I've suggested.

And finally..

5. Once you've bent over (by moving your backside back and keeping your back straight) the next step is to move your left hip (right hip for lefties) slightly towards your target. Doing this automatically places your head behind the ball, which is just what you want.

6. Once in this golf posture position you can place a club on the ground in a position to hit a ball, and you probably will have to either bend over more or stand up straighter depending on what club you are using. For example, you will have to bend over more for a wedge than you would for a driver simply because a wedge is quite a bit shorter than a driver is.

If you really seriously want to improve then you should practice this setup exercise at least once a day. Hey, it only takes 30 seconds MAX and the consistency it gives you will be unbelievable.

nick Bayley is a professional golfer who has discovered just one golf swing fault that could be stopping YOU from ball striking consistency and success. But luckily for you, now you can take a simple 2 minute golf swing test to see if you have this swing fault or not. So don't delay! Go here to take The Golf Swing Test now.

Postures that Promote Mental Health

When youre experiencing symptoms of depression, exercise may be the last thing you want to think about doing; however, it could be one of the most beneficial, particularly if the exercise you choose is yoga.

Well over a hundred million people worldwide are affected by depression, and in the U.S. alone the annual cost of medically treating depression is astronomical. That said, yoga isnt an instant cure or a replacement for the clinical treatment of severe depression. But at the same time, yoga practice may ease some of the symptoms of depression or even clear a path of sight through the gloom. It might also increase feelings of empowerment for sufferers, by showing them a way to treat themselves better.

If youre new to yoga, the hardest thing might be actually making it to the mat; but even if you start with just a few poses a day, you may find that youre soon ready to do more. The slow, deep breathing, the yoga postures and the meditation can each help you to become more in tune with yourself, by strengthening your sense of wholeness and balance in mind, body and spirit.

The benefits of yoga dont end there. Regular, slow and gentle practice can help reduce stress, contributing to a more peaceful state of mind and positive outlook. You might see the results in better mood control, improved concentration and energy levels, as well as in your general sense of well-being.

Theres science behind the positive effects of yoga, as well. Practicing yoga can stimulate the nervous system and circulation, raising the levels of hormones that make us feel good and decreasing those that cause us to feel stressed. yoga practice can also be beneficial to the immune system and can help flush toxins from the body.

If youre interested in trying yoga to soothe feelings of depression, you might want to join a class at a nearby yoga studio, fitness club or community center. A good certified instructor should be able to provide you with tips and poses that are particularly good for easing depression, but you can also turn to videos or the Internet for sites addressing this more specific use of the practice.

For a more in-depth examination of the relationship between yoga and mental health, you might want to read yoga for Depression: A Compassionate guide to Relieve Suffering through Yoga, by yoga instructor and mentor Amy Weinstraub.

Brodi Saatpha has been practicing yoga for many years, and one day hopes to attain true enlightenment. When she is not teaching others how to discover inner peace, she writes for yoga-insight.com a website educating people about home yoga workouts, comfortable yoga clothes, yoga retreats and more.
